Aerogel is a synthetic porous ultralight material derived from a gel, in which the liquid component of the gel has been replaced with gas. The result is a solid with extremely low density and low thermal conductivity. Aerogel is one of the most thermally efficient materials. Despite the name, aerogel is a solid, rigid, and dry material that does not resemble a gel in its physical properties: the name comes from the fact that they are made from gels and the air content can reach 99.8%.
Our Neofelis® aerogel mat is an excellent high temperature insulating blanket which contains silica-based aerogel powder reinforced with inorganic binder and fiber. Its key advantages over other insulation material are:
- The thermal conductivity is only 1/3~1/5 that of traditional materials -> thinner insulation material requirements
- Extremely water repellent -> prevents moisture damage and corrosion
